The BIO
I played club soccer with BRYC for 10 years, many years ago. I have coached youth soccer with Burke Athletic Club for three years, both girls and boys. My philosophy is to teach the team how to be better persons as well as to become better soccer players. I am trained "E Class" coach and a firm believer in positive coaching practices.
The Real Story: I began my soccer journey with the Braddock Road Boys Club as
the center midfielder of a victory-challenged team. We went on to set many, still unbroken, records for futility but managed to have an immense amount of fun. I spent one season with the Markt-Bergl West German soccer club where we learned about soccer. I ran through the snow with the team until they mentioned that I would never play and was pretty much wasting my time. I joined the Carlisle Soccer club where I was again a starting midfielder for an average team. Returning to BRYC for 5 more years, I found my home as a defensive specialist, occasionally playing behind our skill-challenged keeper. We scored many of own goals that season. The keeper and team soon became proficient and we reigned supreme of the league for about two years. In College, I was a star performer on the Fraternity intermural "C" for small-sided games.
With children, comes responsibility as a soccer parent. When the coach of my daughter’s team was leaving the area, I was found to be the only parent with a soccer background. Installed as coach of a U12G team of special girls, we went on to glory and greatness, leading the league in fun and merriment for 3 seasons. Rudely awakened by a 10-2 drubbing in our first U14 game, we began to get serious about soccer, for about a week. Fun and merriment continued as we developed a Savage culture where we tried to instill in the players that playing the right way is more important than winning and that winning and being a winner are not the same.
