Go Apex, Go Blue!

APEX, a U16 girls travel soccer team with Burke AC playing in the WAGS league, is looking for players born on or after 8/1/1995 for Winter 2011 and Spring 2012.  Professionally and positively coached by Larry Rice (15 yrs experience coaching girls), we practice/play year round in the Burke/Fairfax area.  Apex is an 8 year team with remarkable chemistry, a great goalie, a rock-solid defense, and creative play-makers and goal scorers.  Consider joining a team with committed players that is family-friendly and fun.

Contact Coach Larry at LarryRice53@hotmail.com or call for more information at 703-869-1419.

Apex had an amazing Fall 2011 season with a overall record of 13-3-0.  They finished 7-1 in league play and claimed the ODSL Division 1 championship.  The Apex ladies won the 2011 PWSI Toys for Tots Tournament over Labor Day weekend.  They are looking forward to competing in WAGS in the Spring.  Here they are at the beginning of the Fall season.

Coach Larry has learned to never count Apex out, because they can always find a way to win.  Even without their starting defensive line and two captains due to injuries and illness, Apex repeated as Champions of the 2011 Bull Run Memorial Day Tournament.  Apex players and four great guest players stepped up in unfamiliar roles as a true team.  In the deciding game agains a strong Arlington side, Captain Coley scored the winning goal in the last minute with an assist from our keeper.  It was a game for the ages.  Here they are getting ready for the trophy ceremony.

The Apex ladies won the 2011 PWSI Icebreaker Tournament with a 3-0-1 record against some tough teams from New Jersey, Great Falls, and Chantilly.  The final was an incredible game that went through double over-time and into PK’s, where our goalie stopped one and our shooters made 4 out of 5 to win it!  It was too cold to hang around for a picture, but here’s the hardware!

This picture is worth a thousand words.  What a season!

Apex fought through adversity and injuries to four teammates to go undefeated and win the Battlefield Classic 2010 Columbus Day Tournament in Manassas.  They finished with 3 wins and a tie, scoring 7 goals and allowing 1.  Here they are enjoying their day in the sun!

Apex won their flight at the 2010 Toys for Tots Tournament in Woodbridge September 4th and 5th, with a record of 2 wins and 1 tie, scoring 7 goals and allowing 2.  This got them to the final, where they lost to a very good McLean team.

Apex went undefeated to win the U14 Division at the Memorial Day 2010 Bull Run Tournament, scoring 20 goals and allowing only 2.  Here they are with the hardware!

Here is Apex after opening their Spring 2010 season with a 5-0 win on their home field, Patriot Park:

Apex were finalists at the Labor Day 2009 Toys for Tots Tournament hosted by PWSI.  They won their flight and the semi-final with 4 shutouts while scoring 11 goals.

Here is Apex after the Spring 2009 Liberty Cup.  They finished tied for second in the Premier Group.  They are proud of the fact that they won and tied against WAGS teams in higher divisions.

Apex competed successfully in the Battlefield Classic over the Columbus Day 2008 weekend. They were champions of the U13G Blue Division, with a record of 3 wins and 1 loss.  The three wins were shutouts against SYC Xplosion, FCSC Thunder, and FC Frederick-Royal.  The 0-1 loss was an exciting game against the VSA Heat with end-to-end action for 60 minutes.  Here they are showing off their medals and plaque:

Apex won Flight A in the 2008 Toys for Tots Labor Day Tournament with 3 shutouts.  Here are some Apex players executing pressure, cover and balance, a defensive tactic that helped secure those shutouts!

Apex were finalists at the 2008 Bull Run Memorial Day Tournament:

Apex also won the WAGS Sportsmanship Award for Fall 2007.  Here’s Apex at the DC United game where they accepted the award on the field at half time:
