Local Soccer Team Helps Out on Global Youth Service Day

As part of Global Youth Service Day 2017, the BAC Lightning U10 Girls (team of 12 girls ages 9 and 10), coached by Ed Apgar and Doug McDonald, decided to serve as ball girls during the Robinson Girls JV Soccer Game on April 21 and also clean up the Soccer Complex at Patriot Park on April 27.

The girls gave both activities their all just like they do on the soccer field each week. Whether it was running and chasing down the game balls or picking up old water bottles and cigarette butts, the girls discovered that doing something small can actually be great fun and make a big difference in our community.

Global Youth Service Day (which was celebrated April 21-23 this year) is the largest service event in the world and the only one that celebrates the contributions that children and youth make 365 days of the year. Founded in 1986, Youth Service America, the sponsor of this event, is committed to encouraging our youth to fulfill their lives with meaningful service, learning, and leadership.
