Team Success Stories

U13 APEX

BAC Apex had success at the Battlefield Classic Tournament in Manassas over the Columbus Day weekend.  They were champions of the U13G Blue Division, with a record of 3 wins and 1 loss.  The three wins were shutouts against SYC Xplosion, FCSC Thunder, and FC Frederick-Royal.  The 0-1 loss was an exciting game against the VSA Heat with end-to-end action for 60 minutes.  The Apex defense, led by goaltender Aneeka Mahan and captain Laura Townsley, included Casey Hughes, Danielle Newcomb, Emily Grayson, Emma Henderson, and guest Melanie Bennett.  Aneeka’s goals against average for the tournament was 0.25.  Apex once again displayed a balanced attack in that six different players scored 8 goals in the four games.  The attack was led by captain Nicole Steinbicker, and included Erika Rashka, Coco Armstrong, Justina Whearty, Ellen McDowell, Sarah Pigg, and Colleen McDonald.  Striker Kaitleigh Fetterman was high scorer with three goals.  The goal of the tournament for Apex was Kaitleigh’s half volley off a cross from left wing Janine Simmons.  Captain Connie Tran, out for the season with a broken collar bone, was missed on the field but not on the sidelines.  Connie attended all 4 games to give her team moral support and advice.  Her keen observations were a big help to coaches Larry Rice and Chris Kehde.

U16 FUSION

U16G Fusion played in the SYA Cardinal Cup and ended up a finalist in the U19G HS Premier Division. They lost the championship game on penalty kicks after tying the game on a late goal in overtime. Because 6 players were unable to play, Fusion played the game with only 10 players and demonstrated real heart and character throughout the game and the tournament.
Congratulations to the BAC Teams on their recent tournament successes!

Gordon Miller: Look before you leap to a D1 youth team
Some parents believe that their child must play on a winning team in division 1, all the time, to guarantee automatic success in later years. It does not.
