Fencing is a great sport. It combines coordination, speed, agility, and self confidence.
 
The Burke AC fencing program focuses on the sabre. The sabre requires accurate use of both the point as well as understanding and training on how to use   the edge of the blade.

Fencing will be a 8 week session.  The classes will be offered on Tuesday’s from 5:00 – 6:00 pm at Terra Centre Elementary School starting on January 11th – Mar 8th or Thursday’s from 6:00 – 7:00 pm at Fairview Elementary starting on January 13th – Mar 3rd.  Both classes will start with the basics and then will continue with the development of fencing skills. The cost of the program is $90 plus equipment rental $35.00 ($125.00 total).
 
Each participant will require a mask, jacket, saber and glove for each class. We will be renting the fencing equipment, (mask, jacket and saber) to those who need it.  There will be a $35.00 rental fee collected at the time of registration.  We will be distributing the fencing equipment during the week of January 3rd, exact dates and times TBD.  There will be a $50 refundable deposit required at the time of equipment pickup.  This needs to be a check made payable to Burke Athletic Club.  The deposit will be held and returned when all of the rented equipment is returned in good condition.  Each participant will be responsible to maintain and care for his/her equipment through out the fencing season.  If a piece is lost or damaged it will be the responsibility of the individual to pay for the replacement of the equipment.
 
Gloves will be sold at equipment pickup for $8.00. This can be purchased with either cash or check.  A Glove is required for class.
 
All equipment will need to be brought to each fencing session.  There will not be extra equipment available at the schools.

The program is open to those born on or before October 1, 2003 (typically in third grade or older). Adults may participate as well.
